A historic character cottage in the picturesque village of Hinchliffe Mill, Holmfirth

The Old Wash Kitchen is a traditional, early 1800's weavers cottage nestling in the valley beside the river Holme in the village of Hinchliffe Mill in Holmfirth which lies at the foot of Holme Moss. It is right on the edge of the Yorkshire Pennines and the Peak district, with woodland, moorland, riverside and reservoir walks from the door, yet you're never far from the pubs, micro-breweries, bottle bars, eateries and amenities of the centre of the charming market town of Holmfirth, with it's quaint cobbled backstreets, pavement cafes and it's varied and vibrant nightlife.

Hinchliffe Mill and it's familiar views made famous in the hit comedy series, 'The Last of The Summer Wine', sits in a conservation area with characteristic, Yorkshire stone cottages centred around a 19th century woollen mill and the river Holme which can be heard babbling by. The cottage is surrounded by rolling green hills, open countryside and has an often described as 'amazing' view from the lounge window up to the the hills and over the river and mill pond, a haven to wildlife and birds including ducks, herons and kingfishers.

What Guests Say

Perfect!

Just back from a 2 night stay. From initial contact with Claire, to the return of the deposit even before we got back home, our experience has been incredible. Cosy. Spotless. Homely. Warm. Didn't want to get out of bed as they were so comfortable. Lovely welcome, with milk in the fridge for that cup of tea after a long drive. Shop 1 minute away for essentials, lovely town 2 minute drive away, 5 fantastic reservoir walks, all within a 10 minute drive away. Took 2 boys (12 and 16, yes, funny names for children) who don't like to be separated from gaming consoles, and they can't wait to go back. Great value for money. You know sometimes there's always something that takes the shine off? Well, we couldn't find fault with anything, and we're getting to the age where we like to grumble. Thank you Claire, your hospitality has created family memories that are priceless.

Felt like home

Had a great few nights here, The cottage was really cosy, clean and felt like home straight away. Walk to Holmfirth takes 20 minutes down one straight road where there is lots of bars and restaurants.

Would highly recommend sunday lunch at The Pickled Pheasant which is a 5 minute walk away. Food and service was amazing! Even visited the farm where they source their meat from and had an amazing breakfast.

Claire & Darrell were great throughout the booking process and the welcome pack was a lovely touch.

Would highly recommend a stay here!
